The Jackson County Board of Supervisors looked to improve the heavily damaged Lake Mars Fishing Pier that had exceeded its original design life following Hurricane Nate in 2017. Brown, Mitchell & Alexander, Inc. (BMA) performed the following services: environmental permitting, surveying, design, bidding, and construction administration and observation.
BMA was tasked with revamping the existing pier structure by replacing the deteriorated timber piling with concrete piles, followed by marine grade timber structure, decking, and handrails. LED lighting was installed to provide a safely lit fishing pier for the citizens of Jackson County. The project was funded by FEMA, construction started in the fall of 2020, and was completed in the Spring of 2021 at a cost of $618,000 by JE Borries Construction.
