Chester M. McPhearson, Jr. Pier Project

Brown, Mitchell & Alexander, Inc. (BMA), was selected by the City of Ocean Springs, Mississippi to design the repair / replacement of the Chester M. McPhearson, Jr. Pier as a result of damages caused by Hurricane Katrina. Assessment of damages and Estimated Costs prepared by BMA were the basis of the Scope of Work on the FEMA Project Worksheet and funding available for the design and reconstruction of this pier.

The project consisted of the demolition of the existing damaged pier and installation of 6,500 linear feet of 14” x 14” pre-stressed concrete piling, timber connectors and associated work in order to complete pier, handrails, 30’ x 50’ pavilion and a fishing platform (both inclusive of metal roofing) and installation of electrical conduit and wiring for pier lighting. Total cost for construction was approximately $830,000.
