Ocean Springs Hwy 90 Fishing Pier

about this project

In the aftermath of Hurricane Zeta in 2020, the Jackson County Board of Supervisors tasked Brown, Mitchell and Alexander with assessing the damage to the Ocean Springs Hwy 90 Fishing Pier and investigating alternate methods to mitigate future damage from storms.

BMA assessed the 1,300-foot pier and observed that the majority of the damage was caused by water uplifting the decking, causing damage to the structure below and handrails. To improve the sustainability of the pier in future events, a flow through grid decking was utilized. FEMA funded the $650,000 rebuild of the pier, which began in the summer of 2022 and was completed in the spring of 2023 by Apple Construction.
